Will I have to go through Basic Training if I want to become a Chef in the Coast Guard?
Im interested in joining the CG as a Chef
I will have my Associates in May.
Associates or not, Chef or sailor, you have to go through Basic Training. I suggest you start getting in shape now. Drop and give me 20…. Push em out!….

They train you to become a soldier is the military first and foremost. After that you have a specialtly, but your a soldier first and you learn all your basic soldier skills at, "Basic".

yes, because you’re not an individual. they want to break you down and build you up to their standards. no one has the luxary of not having to go to basic. and even ppl that have a degree going in have to go to officer’s school, etc.

Expect to attend USCG’s food service specialist advanced training or "A" school too. FS "A" school is about 3 months long. Every FS attended "A" school whether he cooks for a search and rescue station, on board a boat, at a big sector office’s galley like New York or for the commandant.
If you serve 4 years and then apply for officer candidate school, your A.A. degree meets one of the qualifications.

yes for any job in any branch of the military you would have to go through basic training.
and after basic training you would have to go to Food Specialist training.

If you join the coast guard with an associates, you’ll be a mess officer. You’ll have the role of a manager in civilian life. If you want to cook, you’ll be better off as a civilian contractor.
